It smells like medicine right now — I wonder what the previous owner used it for — but I assume with enough airing and maybe some hot water (or perhaps alcohol?) it will clean up just fine…
Yeah whisky prices have been leaking too, as well as luxury watches. I wrote a post maybe a decade ago…

The answer is — no, it is not a silver kettle. In fact, it’s a “pure tin” kettle. Purity is pretty high here — pewter will be a lot duller in character and not have the shine it does here. The little finial though is nephrite jade, which is nice…

I’m sure this will be covered in later posts, but how does it effect water? I used to have a tin kettle that imparted a slight sour note to water if it was boiled for too long.

I have no idea, actually, and will try it out at some point. I won’t be surprised if it affects water negatively — this piece was purchased mostly for aesthetic purposes. I didn’t really have tea making in mind.
